As a child I was fortunate to grow up on a farm and be involved with caring for exotic and domestic farm animals. It was there that I decided my career path was going to have to involve animals. I graduated from Gwinnett Technical College in 2012 with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. After graduation, I passed the RVT Board exam with the State of Georgia, and was in practice with VCA Peachtree Animal hospital for 7 years as their Lead Technician. When my husband and I had our second child I decided I wanted to be a stay at home mom while still serving my passion to care for animals which is where I came up with Fur’st Choice Pet Care. A pet sitting and dog walking service that can offer people a veterinary professional caring for their pets in their absence and in the animals own home where they feel the safest. My goal is to give owners peace of mind knowing their pets not only have someone to walk and feed them but that same person also has the knowledge to properly administer medications, comes with a triage bag, and knows what to do in case of an emergency. I am also required by the state to Continue my Education in order to keep my license year after year.
Melisa, born and raised in Atlanta, Ga grew up knowing she wanted to help animals. Her career working in veterinary hospitals began in high school when she volunteered to work in the clinic and their boarding facility. In 2013 she applied for and was granted a Veterinary Assistant position at the same hospital. While continuing to work as a Veterinary Assistant, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in General Biology from Georgia Gwinnett College in 2015. During that same year, she also became a mom to her beautiful daughter, Mia. She has a soft spot for golden retrievers – one of which her own, Dom, who she considers her soulmate. She also has an orange tabby named Raymond. She has all of the skills and knowledge of a Registered Veterinary Technician, and it is her goal to put that knowledge to paper next fall and work towards her Associates in Veterinary Technology.
My formal experience with pet-sitting began in my own home helping my parents as a child, pet-sitting for my parents and their neighbors through college, trading pet-sitting services with friends and neighbors as a new mother, and operating as a home business as a family for local clients. In the 90s, I worked with one of the first pet-sitting services in Snellville when I stayed home to raise my first son. Since childhood I have owned and helped raise 12 dogs, a cat, and many hamsters, hermit crabs, and fish. Currently, my babies include a 13 year-old Westie Terrier named Ben, a 7 year-old Cairn Terrier named Peaches, and a 3 year-old Chorkie named Snickerdoodle. We have 3 fish who also serve as mascots for the Preschool where I work as a Science teacher. My motto in education and petcare has always been to treat the children as if they are my own, understanding that every parent worries about their babies. It has never let me down! Medically, I am First Aid/Fire Safety Certified with my employer for the last ten years and have been background checked with employment since 1993 with the Federal Government. My husband has worked in the Healthcare field for almost 30 years so we are extremely conscious of proper health and safety for the animals as well as humans. Thank you for trusting me with your home, your babies, and your schedule when you need to be away!
I was born and raised in Lawrenceville, GA. After high school, I was a swimmer at Carson-Newman University, and returned home after graduating college. Before and throughout my career pursuits, I have always had a fond love of animals. My family rescued a beautiful Chocolate Lab, and now, Daisy has been apart of our family for 12 years. I’ve happily pet sat for friends and family over the years. Fur-babies will always have a special place in my heart, as will yours when in my care.
I’m a recent Georgia Southern graduate who has a pet guinea pig but I love all animals so petting sitting is a perfect way to get my pet fix in.
I have had a passion for canine and feline enrichment. After graduating from Georgia Southern University with an art degree, I moved back home, pivoted to the veterinary industry, and became a Kennel Manager at one of the local animal hospitals. There, I was able to improve the quality of care for the pets staying in our facility. I have completed the first level of Fear- Free Training; a program designed to de-stress dogs and cats staying in boarding. My family and I have just recently moved to Gwinnett County. I have two wild dogs and two very opinionated cats. I enjoy travelling with my dogs and many of our vacations are centered around being able to bring them along. Pet sitting is just another way I am able to make a difference in the community. I look forward to meeting you and your beloved family members!
